Up-Converters transform standard analog video signals into higher resolution computer signals. A key step in this process is de-interlacing the video signal and converting it into a progressive scan signal.

The simplest method of up-converting is by line doubling, which results in a 640x480 VGA signal. A more advanced method of up-converting is by video scaling, which results in a variety of selectable higher resolutions. Video scaling generally produces a smoother image and may be preferable when feeding larger screen video projection systems.

Up-Converters can be used for anything from playing a video game on a computer monitor to watching a DVD movie on a large screen computer resolution projection system.
